Market Status: Explosion and Diversification

The global smart glasses market saw explosive growth in 2025. According to IDC data, global shipments reached 4.065 million units in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 64.2%. Growth continued into Q3 with shipments of 4.296 million units, a surge of 74.1%. The Chinese market performed exceptionally well, with annual shipments expected to hit 2.75 million units, up 107% year-on-year, making it the global growth engine.

Product structure showed significant diversification. "Audio & Shooting Glasses," focusing on audio and camera functions, became the main driver, with Q3 shipments skyrocketing by 287.5%. Simultaneously, AI capabilities rapidly penetrated the market, with 35.7% of new products in China featuring on-device AI.

Core Drivers: AI and Ecosystem

The deep integration of large AI models is the core driver. Product functionality has expanded from basic recording to real-time translation, visual recognition, and more. Over half of the new products launched in China have integrated large models. An Omdia report indicates that global AI glasses shipments are expected to reach 6.85 million units in 2025.

Advantages in the industrial chain have supported this market explosion. The Chinese supply chain dominates over 80% of global component supply, and decreasing costs of core components have fueled product adoption. The competitive landscape has evolved from hardware competition to a comprehensive battle encompassing channels, ecosystems, and application scenarios, entering a phase dubbed the "Hundred Glasses War."

Competitive Edge: Channels and User Experience

Smart glasses sales are highly dependent on offline experience. Factors like fit, prescription adaptation, and hands-on interaction require in-person trials, which has significantly increased the value of traditional eyewear retail channels. Manufacturers are actively partnering with optical stores or building their own experience stores.

The Chinese market features diversified competition. While Meta maintains global dominance (75.7% share in Q3), Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and TCL's RayNeo have entered the global top five. Internet giants like ByteDance, Alibaba, and Baidu have also entered the fray, leveraging their AI and content ecosystems.

Future Outlook: A Two-Phase Evolution

Institutions like Bank of America propose a clear two-phase growth path:
Phase 1 (Now - 2027): Led by screenless AI glasses, focusing on lightweight AI functions like voice interaction and environmental sensing. Annual growth is estimated at 25%.
Phase 2 (Starting 2028): As display technology matures, glasses with AR display capabilities will become the core growth driver.

IDC forecasts that shipments in the Chinese market will reach 4.508 million units in 2026, a year-on-year increase of 77.7%, marking the industry's entry into a phase of scaled growth. New products from more major players are expected in 2026, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape.

Conclusion

2025 marks a critical inflection point for the smart glasses market. Categories centered on AI assistants and camera functionality are in a period of rapid growth. Moving forward, the industry will develop rapidly under the leadership of major players, advancing towards greater ecosystem integration, scenario-based applications, and display technology upgrades. For suppliers and brands, keeping pace with AI integration trends and building differentiated experiences and channel capabilities will be key to seizing this opportunity.
